ABOUT FRUIT STORAGE
Apples
Apples grown for storage purposes should be harvested before they become fully tree ripe for best results. Cool the apples as quickly as possible, ideally at fridge temperature (40 degrees Fahrenheit). Do not attempt to store bruised, over ripe or otherwise damaged fruit. Periodically inspect the apples, and discard any showing signs of breakdown. Do not let them freeze.
Summer apples generally have poor storage capabilities, even under ideal conditions. Use them promptly. Many mid-season varieties, when properly handled will store for at least a month in cool conditions. The late varieties are usually better for longer term storage.
